What is PCOS?

PCOS is a polycystic ovary syndrome.

Now, don’t get afraid of the word ‘syndrome’. Sit back, relax, and try to gain some knowledge. And with the word ‘ovary’, men should not skip the part, it can be possible that you may help your female friends and family by sharing this with them and can have a chance to shine like a star in their eyes.

PCOS or PCOD(polycystic ovarian disease) is a condition that affects women in their menstrual years(14-below 50).

It increases the rate of producing male hormones from normal to higher levels, which can cause them to skip their menstrual periods and make harder for them to get pregnant.

Many women have this but didn’t know about it.

Considering, you have some knowledge of ovaries(the reproductive organ that produces estrogen and progesterone-hormones help in maintaining menstrual cycle) and ovulation(producing egg each month), let’s got to the major symptoms:

  1. cysts in the ovaries.
  2. high level of male hormones (as ovaries also produce some amount of it-the androgens )
  3. non-stable or skipped period problems (can be from weeks to months)

If you notice these symptoms or facial hair, obesity, hair fall, weight gain, unwanted body hair, acne, it will be good if you go and ask a doctor because if not, it may lead to some serious problems like diabetes, cholesterol, heart disease, etc.

WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR

It will be good to see a doctor if:

  1. you’ve missed periods and you’re not pregnant.
  2. you’ve noticed symptoms of PCOS.
  3. trying to get pregnant for a year or more, but unsuccessful.

In the end, be aware of your body and the changes it shows. To check on your body should be very first in your priority list. Eat good and healthy, be hydrated, and do some exercise daily(if not more maybe for 10-20 min).
